Meat Industry

Can you beleive it? In the US the meat industry is allowed to process the meat we buy at the grocery store with carbon monoxcide to keep the red color bright and it stays as long as eight days. When tests were done on the eighth day it looked fresh but the meat was full of ecoli bacteria! This is not allowed in Europe,  so why do we allow it here? Is it ok to deceive the consumer to make an extra buck?
