Abraham of Accomac Virginia

Abraham Cherrix 16-years-old of Accomack County, Virginia, has Hodgkin’s disease, a form of cancer that affects the lymph nodes of the body. The teenager lives on a small island called Chincoteague, an island off Virginia’s Eastern Shore.

Abraham a tall skinny teenager had been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s last year and was given a full boat of chemo therapy, three months worth. I read that he was so weak at times he had to be carried by his father. Well in February of this year he was told that his cancer was back.

The doctors wanted to give him massive doses of chemo and radiation therapy. Abraham said no he doesn’t want to take the treatments, he wants to try some alternative medicine instead, saying that “The chemo would probably kill me this time, they want to bring me to the brink of death and try to bring me back.” His parents supported him fully, as any parent should, in my opinion. Well, social services disagree!

A social worker has asked a judge to require Abraham to continue conventional treatment, and in May the judge issued a temporary order finding Jay and Rose Cherrix, Abraham’s parents, neglectful for supporting their son’s choice to pursue alternatives.

On Monday, July 17, Abraham and his family will be in juvenile court in Accomack County for a closed hearing to determine whether the 16-year-old can make his own medical decisions–and whether he can keep living with his parents and four siblings.

Judge Jesse E. Demps ordered the parents to share custody of Abraham with the Accomack County Department of Social Services; they face losing custody completely.

I can’t believe that the state can take the position of saying they’re rights are far superior to the parents’ rights to medical treatment of a child. If the social services gets their way this will lead them to be able to step in between the parents their children and their doctors every time they disagree or feel that a particular treatment should be used and can intimidate the public to obey or face loosing their children. Am I wrong or do I hear a hint of communism here?

I had cancer, I took the treatments, I live with the side effects every day. Today the doctors will tell you that “Well, we don’t use that type of treatment anymore for the cancer you had” so if Abraham wants to try something different, let him! He’s sixteen! His parents agree with his wishes! So what’s the problem? If my child had any disease it would be hard enough without some social worker on my back!

For The Love Of GOD! Virginia, Leave The Boy And His Family Alone!

  1. This young man is old enough to determine how he wants to live or make a decision on the best course of treatment. It is WRONG for the government to step in. More of our rights as parents eroded daily by a government out of control and out of touch with the voting public. I don’t see that the State Social Workers in any state are doing such a bang-up job. They should put their efforts toward children that really need their help- not a child who is being cared for by his parents.

  2. This is about Abraham Cherrix’s story. I’ve dealt with the diabolical activities of the Fla. Dept. of Children & Families with my daughter’s Multiple Sclerosis condition for the past few years. My daughter is Audra Smith & she’s presently a patient at the Sabal Palms Nursing Facility in Largo, FL where Terri Schiavo was formerly a patient & Michael Schiavo has written about in his newly published book. Audar has been a Medicare Part A & B beneficiary…& I believed she was a Medicaid beneficiary, but didn’t get the evidence until recently by accident. Audra has had full Medicare & Medicaid coverage for the past ten years & we’ve been defrauded by the health care system for ten years. I have had a durable power-of-attorney a prepared myself for my daughter since she was diagnosed with MS at Shands Hospital at the University of FL in 1996. It’s been ten years of every type of fraud by the DCF, the State Dept. of Health, the Health Care Administration, & Social Security trying to find a way to circumvent my durable power-of-attorney. This activity is still in progress as I type this email. It’s obvious the DCF wanted Audra’s condition to deteriorate after the DCF forged a fraudulent Medicaid application in a clause which states “In the event of my comatose state or death, that I authorize the DCF to be my legal representative over my entire estate.” I took this to our bank, Washington Mutual, & their response was “This is scary..if they are doing this to you then they are doing it to other people. The DCF tried to use this application as a form of a power-of-attorney to circumvent your power-of-attorney to try to access any bank acct. in Audra’s name.” A fraud alert was put on our bank acct. against the DCF in Sept. & is still on there to prevent them from stealing money. I’ve also dealt with their attempts to steal money & checks by other criminal means. This fraudulent Medicaid application was fabricated in March of 2005 at Tampa General Hospital when Audra was admitted from the emergency room on the very day that the feeding tube was removed from Terri Schiavo. The DCF absolutely cannot force Abraham Cherrix to take the chemotherapy if his parents have a durable power-of-attorney that covers medical. Audra’s doctors at one time were so frustrated that we couldn’t get the Avonex medication that they prescribed chemo to try to control the tremors. Audra went to an oncologist in Winter Park, FL in the Orlando area for one dose..& she became very ill so we discontinued it. The DCF in Virginia may have fabricated some form of a secret power-of-attorney to take control of Abraham’s medical treatment & his estate. That’s the only way I can figure that the judge would have ruled in their favor. Regardless, though, his parents need to have a durable power-of-attorney drawn up immediately & maybe go back to court to overturn the judge’s order. The minute his parents have a valid durable power-of-attorney..it will cancel out anything that the Social Services may have fabricated on the side. In conclusion, there is a huge scandal now in progess at Sabal Palms Nursing Facility at the Palms of Largo in Largo, Florida, where my daughter has been a patient since the end of Oct. 2005. This health care scandal is on the brink of making national news exposing shocking information. The only way I could get her on the Avonex medication was inside a nursing facility. I’ve been told that hospitals don’t administer the expensive MS medications. The only medicine that she’s been given in hospitals from Orlando to Tampa to the St. Petersburg area..is Solumedrol steroids..except one injection of Avonex one time at Health Central Hospital in Orlando in 2003. I pray for Abraham to have control of his choice of medical treatments & that God would heal him of cancer altogether.
