Thursday Thirteen #10

I tried to think up something different to write about. I like to try to keep things positive! So instead of writing about the 13 things that annoy me the most (mostly because I had more than 13 when I started making my list) I decided to write 13 of my favorite authors and the books I’ve read. Yes, I know Stephen King Seems To dominate, but I don’t like “Easy Reader” books, for the most part.

So, here we go!

1. Steven King

The Dark Tower I : The Gun Slinger
The Dark Tower II: Drawing of the Three
The Dark Tower III: The Waste Lands
The Dark Tower IV: Wizard and Glass
The Dark Tower V: Wolves of the Calla
The Dark Tower VI: Song Of Susannah
The Dark Tower VII: The Dark Tower (Guess you’re getting that I like the Dark Tower series! I’m just finishing up #7 This particular series is awesome, I love how every one of SK’s books are integrated into these some how.) (in #7, I’m fairly sure susannah just Killed IT)
The Stand (Only book to movie I’ve really enjoyed)
Insomnia
Dream Weaver (so much better than the movie)
The Green Mile (Why do they slaughter good books with bad movies?)
From a Buick 8
The Talisman
Black House (I have decided that I read way too much Stephen King, some books I really didn’t care for and have decided not to list, others I liked and decided not to add because this list is already too long!)

2. Anne McCaffery

Dragon Riders of Pern (I absolutely love the dragon riders of Pern Series and the off shoot from that series about the Girl named Menolly, Although I can’t recall the name of those 3 books)

Crystal Singer
The Rowan Series (What can I say, If I like one of their books, I tend to like all their books)

3. Peirs Anthony

The Entire Xanth Series (I read these in High School, couldn’t read them fast enough, I think these books really annoyed my teachers cause I’d read instead of listening to their endless ramblings)

4. Lloyd Alexander

The Black Caldron Books (I was facinated by them until I saw the Black Caldron animation. It totally ruined the imaginary world I had in my head where a bard looked like a weird beast, maybe something off the new Pirates of the Carribbean, not a human.)

5. Mark Twain

Tom Sawyer
HuckleBerry Finn (How can you go wrong on the classics? Can you really imaging two teen boys on a raft in the Mississippi this day and age?)

6. Madeleine L’Engle

A Wrinkle in Time (Even though a teacher in elementary “made me” read this I thoroughly enjoyed it, I just realized it’s book 1 of four… I gotta look into this)

7. Shel Silverstein

A Light in the Attic
Where the Sidewalk Ends (I love these simple poems, although not “mainstream” with underlying meaning, I think the simpleness it what attracted me most)

8. Margaret Weis

The Dragon Lance Series (Time of the Twins, War of The Twins, etc…) (Most Enjoyable, gotta love a book where one of the main characters has a topknot)
The Dragonlance Chronicles (Where the series came from if I remember correctly)

9. Frank Herbert

Dune
Dune Messiah (Dune Chronicles, Book 2)
Children of Dune (Dune Chronicles, Book 3)
God Emperor of Dune (Dune Chronicles, Book 4)
Heretics of Dune (Dune Chronicles, Book 5)
Chapterhouse Dune (Dune Chronicles, Book 6) (Not sure why I liked these, But I read them all and I actually started over with books 1 and 2 until I discovered the Gunslinger series by Stephen King)

10. Judy Blume

Freckle Juice (I actually hoped that the recipies to get rid of my freckles would be in this book. IT WASN’T, but I did learn a lesson. Most people want what they don’t have and don’t like what they do.)

11. Edith Hamilton

Mythology (Don’t know why but I always found the stories very interesting, I carried this book around long enough to wear the cover right off!)

12. & 13. I’ve decided that this list is long enough (and maybe I should read other authors lol) Thanks for stopping by!

  1. I loved Judy Blume and Shel Silverstein, and still have many of the original books that where purchased for/by me when I was younger.

    My TT#3 is up!

  2. This is a great list of writers. I loved the Judy Blume books as a teenager. And since I have a lot of freckles I was hoping for the recipe too. But now I love my freckles.

  3. The Stand is probably the only book of Stephen King’s where I also enjoyed the movie. I loved the Peirs Anthony Xanth books. They were such a fun read. Great list.

  4. My girls love Judy Blume and so do I ! Books are the bomb, especially if they are written by the authors you’ve listed. Great TT!

    Toodles,

  5. i agree about Stephen King and The Stand. Shel Silverstein totally rocks. great list.
thank you for visiting my tt this week.

  6. Love your list. Madeleine L’Engle is one of my favorite authors ever. And I remember how excited I was to discover Anne McCaffrey and the Harper Hall trilogy. Jenny, a TT newbie 🙂

  7. Great list Trina, # 5 Is my favorite. I found an old copy of each, with the old colorful illustrated covers, in the backroom of the bookstore when you had me moving books. I really like them thanks…lol
