High School Ages and Graduation

I live on the Delmarva Peninsula. It’s a nice place… a little slow Rural kind of area.

Here it seems to be the norm to hear some of the older generations talk about how they didn’t graduate from high school in fact they only made fourth grade. I know one family only one person out of three generations graduated from High School. I have noticed that many of the older act as if they did all right and say “I didn’t need no school’n ” while the younger kids are finding out fast that you had better get an education and find yourself at the head of the line when it comes to jobs and acquiring one in this economy.

I have found that it is not just here, in this area, that the problem exists – I have has comments from all over the U.S.

I blogged many years ago about High School and wanted to know what the age limit was I really never got a bad answer but I never really got the one I was looking for either. You can find the post here.

What I did read in the comments I was getting on the post were from kids seventeen to their twenties that
are in a panic because they might not graduate or are wondering how to finish because they finally saw what it meant to graduate. So many kids miss out on all the senior fun of finally getting to that end of this life chapter.

I guess what I am trying to say is more kids need the proper guidance long before it becomes an issue. I don’t believe we have taken education and keeping kids in school as serious as we need to here in the USA. The reason I am writing this is in the last five years the post you read in the link above has been one of the most read blog posts here ever. Many have gone on to get their GED and go on to college so kudos to all of you that did. It would be nice to have some comments from those that pulled it together and did graduate and made it happen.

I do have to say I did find out the they raised the High School Age limit in Texas to the age of Twenty Six Some think this is way out of line… What do you think?
