Autumn Wine Festival

The Autumn Wine fest in Salisbury Maryland was a great success this year despite the colder-than-wished-for weather. It seemed as though there were more people then last year and when comparing photos from last year to this one one can see this was the best year we have been to yet. Now no one was as festive as Andy and Gary from last year! I guess that’s because there wasn’t anybody there as toasted… LOL

We tasted a lot of wines and found some really unusual ones the kind you cant’ just get off the shelf somewhere. Hands down the best of the desert wines came from the home of the Gollywobbler in St. Micheals Winery on the eastern shore of Maryland. The wine is a chocolate flavored drink with such a good flavor I had to buy some.

The best overall winery in the whole festival goes to Bordy Winery This was the best booth in the show the servers were happy to be there and were more then happy to serve you all the taste tests you wanted and with some great conversation. You could tell that the positive attitude was reflected in the wine they make, clean crisp well flavored wine with a great nose and flavor to match. My favorite was the Spiced Wassail they served it slightly warm and with it being a cold day- oh so good! It was like it was the holidays were here. This wine would go great with apple pie and Ice cream after a turkey dinner… Gosh I’m getting hungry just thinking about it!

The sweeter wines were the hit this year it seemed that most wineries had their share as were your traditional wines like the Cab Franc and the Cabernet Sauvignon. I didn’t buy much of these – just the ones I can’t get off the shelf. The ones I did get won’t really be any good for another few years.

So this is where we turn next, the coming holiday season… Gosh it’s seems as though this year flew by, it is October 20th already! Halloween pumpkins and then it time for turkey? Oh well I like the holidays it’s always so much fun and food of course.
