Cambridge Maryland to Solomans Island Maryland

Our scheduled departure day was the day Hurricane Sandy was going to hit. We dalayed.

Our next departure date… early nor’easter. We delayed again.

Then we finally saw our weather window. November 9, 2012, the same date we left Cambridge, Maryland, in 2011. The morning was supposed to be a little sloppy but it was supposed to get better through out the day.

The first day out was uneventful and everything was working just fine we made Solomans in no time and we got some fuel and tied to the dock at the Tiki Bar for the night. We had left Cambridge around 7:30am and reached Solomans Island, Maryland, around 3:30pm. It seems that this is going to be a good trip with the new inboard atomic 4 and the new Bimini top we are stoked!

Before we tied up for the night we stopped for fuel at a local gas dock. We used 9.3 gallons for the day so our average gallons per hour (GPH) was roughly 1.16 – not great, the Atomic 4 inboard should run at 1 GPH average or 3/4 GPH optimally.

We were tired and a good night sleep is never hard to find when you start cruising and your first night out you’re safely and securely Tied to a dock 🙂

Made the call this morning to wait out the brewing storm to cross the Albemarle Sound. So I slept in a bit… Took a look at the radar and I am glad I made the right call. It looks like we are in for rain and wind not my type of cruising. Yucky but we are tied up to a nice dock north of the Elizabeth city bridge in NC. it’s free all they ask is you go have a meal at a restaurant to support the town.
